Natural Beauty Has Gone Wild

Five Female Entrepreneurs are Changing the Face of Beauty for Good

I have this fantasy of walking through glistening mountain snow, gathering wildflowers to incorporate into my beauty regimen to keep my hair and skin pristine and protected during the frigid winter months. But since there aren’t too many wildflowers to be harvested in my area (not would I know the difference between benevolent botanicals and poisonous ones), I’ve taken to collecting the wares of a handful of new beauty brands that are all about nature.

Alpyn Beauty is a clean-beauty brand founded by entrepreneur Kendra Butler in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. All Alpyn products are devoid of the toxic gunk you’re likely to find in commercial brands. Instead, Butler formulated all of her products with botanicals grown high in the mountains and sustainably harvested (a.k.a. “wildcrafted”) by experts who leave the plant intact while clipping the usable elements. Alpyn is good for the environment and great for you! We’re particularly wild about:

PlantGenius Melt Moisturizer

This velvety cream absorbs instantly into your skin to quench thirsty cells and instantly improve texture.

PlantGenius Creamy Bubbling Cleanser

This luscious cleanser draws out impurities and leaves skin smooth and pristine.

$36, alpynbeauty.com

PlantGenius Eye-Filling Balm

This Luscious Eye Balm refreshes eyes, fills lines, and lifts and plumps the tissues around the eyes. If might have your friends wondering if your ski trip was really a visit to a cosmetic surgeon in some far flung locale—unless you’re generous enough to share your secret.

Kaliks Collective is a wellness lifestyle brand founded by herbalist, yogi and entrepreneur Allison Roman. While struggling to diagnose her own chronic skin condition, Roman began a journey of healing and self-empowerment which resulted in her own good health combined with a desire to help others. Roman’s products are mindfully crafted in small batches with all natural ingredients, so they do sell out quickly.

Steep Radiate Herbal Beauty Tea

One of Roman’s founding principles is that beauty begins from within, and her beauty tea is a perfect example of that. Comprised of a proprietary blend of Burdock Root, Spearmint, Tulso, Gotu Kola, Red Clover, Oat Straw, Nettle Leaf and Rose Petals, this energizing tea detoxes the body, reduces chronic inflammation and improves the elasticity and luminosity of skin. And it’s delicious to boot!

Immerse Escape Bath Soak

Deep relaxation is as important to good health as cardio, so Roman utilized the ancient principles of ayurveda to concoct an herbal soak that will get every cell in your body primed for deep sleep. Contains a blend of epsom and sea salts, olive oil, cinnamon, ginger, Vitamin E and essential oils.

Live Botanical was founded by herbalist Carolyn McRory in Portland, Oregon, a passionate believer in natural living who studied aromatherapy and botany for two decades before opening her company.

Luna Renewing Concentrate for Mature Skin

Mature skin needs moisture but also nutrients to plump the skin, reduce visible pores and add elasticity. McRory’s formulation includes antioxidants such as CoQ10, Chamomile and lavender to feed the skin and improve its appearance.

Luna Nourishing Cleansing Oil

McRory set out to create a deep cleansing oil that also nourishes skin, using Hemp seed oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Rosemary and Lemon Balm. Mission accomplished. Not only does the Luna oil moisturize and cleanse proficiently, it also smells heavenly.

Meant founder Lindsay Knaak-Stuart is a former fashion and advertising executive whose family history of cancer and personal struggles with infertility inspired her to delve into the world of natural beauty. The brand’s minimalist packaging and branding reflect Knaak-Stuarts passion for the environment and her general appreciation of simplicity.

Do-All Wash

Yep, it’s exactly what you think it is. Meant’s Do-All cleanser is a moisturizing shampoo, energizing body wash and delicate facial cleanser rolled into one. This is the kind of multi-tasking that busy moms have always been famous for.

$31, meantsimply.com

Do-All Conditioner

Infused with Vitamin B and Aloe, Meant’s Do-All Conditioner strengthens and moisturizes hair and also serves as a shower shaving cream. We’re big proponents of multi-tasking, and anything that saves both time and space in the shower is a definite DO.
